Centre Approves Large-Scale MSP Procurement for Pulses and Oilseeds

Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan approved significant procurement of pulses and oilseeds at Minimum Support Price (MSP) for four states under the Price Support Scheme (PSS). The approval, made on Thursday via video conferencing, covers Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana for the Summer 2026 and Rabi Marketing Season 2025-26 periods, with total procurement valued at approximately ₹1,677 crore.

Uttar Pradesh emerged as the largest beneficiary with approvals for 48,298 metric tonnes (MT) of moong, 97,970 MT of urad, and 41,718 MT of groundnut for the Summer 2026 season. The total MSP value of these approvals exceeds ₹1,490 crore, representing the most substantial allocation among the four states.

Gujarat received approval for procurement of 18,250 MT of moong for the Summer 2026 season, with a total MSP value exceeding ₹160 crore. For Tamil Nadu, the Union Minister enhanced the moong procurement limit for the Rabi Marketing Season 2025-26 from 885 MT to 990 MT, representing an additional 105 MT of procurement. The total MSP value for Tamil Nadu's approved procurement stands at ₹8.68 crore. Haryana received approval for procurement of 2,115 MT of moong during the Summer 2026 season, with a total MSP value exceeding ₹18 crore.

The procurement under PSS is designed to ensure remunerative prices for farmers and protect them from distress sales, providing significant support to pulse and oilseed growers across the four states. The Centre's decision is viewed as a major step in the interest of pulse and oilseed farmers, offering relief from market price pressures through direct MSP benefits.
