The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare conducted a virtual review meeting chaired by Health Secretary Smt. Punya Salila Srivastava to assess progress of Special Campaign 6, which runs from October 2 to 31, 2026. The campaign focuses on institutionalizing Swachhata (cleanliness) and minimizing pendency in government offices, with particular emphasis on healthcare facilities as high-footfall areas.

Key achievements reported include 100% of identified cleanliness sites cleaned, nearly 100% of public grievance appeals resolved, and approximately ₹50 lakh in revenue generated through auction and clearance drives. The meeting emphasized the need for perceptible improvements in sanitation, hygiene, space management, and overall upkeep of public healthcare facilities to enhance service quality and patient experience.

A dedicated one-day Kayakalp Activities initiative focused on sanitation and hygiene is scheduled for October 27, 2026. Discussion focused on effective implementation of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle principles, alongside pest control, biomedical waste management, e-waste disposal, and improved maintenance of public spaces. Institutions were encouraged to dispose of obsolete records and materials through e-auctions to create usable space and generate revenue.

Innovative practices shared included repurposing discarded materials into functional items like plant stands and storage racks, refurbishing condemned furniture, digitizing medical records to free up space, developing green spaces through plantation drives, and undertaking deep-cleaning initiatives. Several institutions introduced digital grievance redressal platforms and QR code-enabled feedback mechanisms to expedite complaint resolution.

The meeting was attended by representatives from 336 Central health institutions across India, including AIIMS Guwahati, AIIMS Rishikesh, AIIMS Bhubaneswar, NIMHANS Bengaluru, CDSCO Ahmedabad, Lady Hardinge Medical College, Safdarjung Hospital, and RIMS Imphal. The Health Secretary concluded by calling for documentation of initiatives and sharing achievements through digital platforms to ensure the campaign creates cleaner, accessible environments for patients, pensioners, staff, and visitors.
