Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Shri Piyush Goyal invited Japanese businesses to deepen investments and partnerships in India during a dinner hosted by the Government of Uttar Pradesh for a Japanese delegation, attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath. The Minister highlighted the growing strategic importance of the India-Japan partnership, noting bilateral trade reached USD 27.5 billion in FY 2025-26 and Japan remains India's fifth-largest source of foreign direct investment.

Goyal emphasized seven streams of national transformation where Indian and Japanese strengths complement each other: manufacturing, agriculture, technology, infrastructure, energy and defence, green and blue economy, and India's civilisational soft power. He specifically highlighted Japan's target of investing 10 trillion yen in India over the next decade, with focus areas including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, critical minerals, batteries, energy, and next-generation mobility.

The Minister cited several existing successful collaborations, including the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project, Japanese-assisted metro systems in Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Chennai, and 11 Japanese industrial townships across eight States. More than 1,400 Japanese companies currently operate in India, including major names such as Suzuki, Toyota and Honda in mobility, Sony in electronics, and Hitachi and Mitsubishi in engineering.

Uttar Pradesh was positioned as a key investment destination, with the state working toward its ambition of becoming a USD 1 trillion economy. The state boasts more than 9 million MSMEs, is India's third-largest state economy and fifth-largest state exporter. Specific infrastructure projects highlighted include the Jewar International Airport, Yamuna Expressway, and the JICA-supported Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, along with 27 industrial clusters in sectors including defence, semiconductors and electronics.

Goyal announced he will visit Japan from 24 to 27 August 2026 to further strengthen the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between the two countries at the highest levels of government and industry. The partnership reflects shared commitment to becoming trusted partners in global progress beyond mere economic growth.
