India-Poland Strategic Partnership Expansion

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Prime Minister of Poland held bilateral talks to strengthen the India-Poland Strategic Partnership established in 2024. The meeting resulted in several important decisions to expand cooperation across multiple sectors, building on the historical ties between the two nations that date back to World War II when Indian royal families provided refuge to Polish children, and more recently when Poland assisted in the safe return of Indian students from Ukraine in 2022.

The economic context shows both countries demonstrating strong growth momentum, with Poland's GDP crossing the historic milestone of one trillion dollars last year and India recording an impressive growth rate of 7.8% in the last quarter. This growing economic strength has created new opportunities for bilateral partnership, particularly through the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement which is expected to open new opportunities for Indian exports of machinery, chemicals, plastics, and engineering goods to Poland once implemented.

Both countries agreed to work toward doubling bilateral trade by 2030 and developing trusted global supply chains through business collaborations. Poland is seeking new investments in Indian sectors including railways and mobility, advanced manufacturing, food processing, and biotechnology, as evidenced by the large Polish business delegation accompanying the Prime Minister.

Strategic sector cooperation will be deepened in defense, space, and nuclear energy, with invitations extended to Polish companies for co-development and co-production partnerships. New collaborations will also be developed in critical minerals and coal gasification, leveraging Polish expertise. In the technology domain, building on existing strong IT and cybersecurity ties with several Indian IT companies operating in Poland, the nations agreed to establish an India-Poland Startup Bridge to foster cooperation in AI, cybersecurity, fintech, and other emerging technologies.

Cultural and educational cooperation will be strengthened through the established Indian Studies Chair in Kraków and the Jam Saheb Youth Exchange Programme, which brings Polish youth to India. Both countries share democratic values and believe in reforming global governance institutions to make them stronger and more effective, with India committing to support meaningful efforts toward peace in Ukraine and West Asia.
