Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Shri Durgadas Uikey informed the Rajya Sabha that as of the current date, no proposal for setting up a tribal-focused museum in the State of Jharkhand is under consideration by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
The Ministry has implemented the 'Support to Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs)' scheme, a Centrally Sponsored Scheme fully funded (100%) by the Central Government that came into effect on December 14, 2017. This scheme provides financial assistance to State Tribal Research Institutes, including Jharkhand's TRI, for infrastructural development including tribal museums and Tribal Freedom Fighters Museums (TFFMs), research and documentation activities, training and capacity building programs, organization of tribal festivals and yatras for cultural preservation and tourism promotion, and organization of tribal exchange visits.
The scheme operates on a demand-driven basis where TRIs submit projects and proposals according to their needs through Annual Action Plans, subject to approval by an Apex Committee chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. Financial support is provided to 29 Tribal Research Institutes across States and Union Territories.
Specific to Jharkhand Tribal Research Institute, the Ministry allocated and released ₹417.03 lakh (approximately ₹4.17 crore) in the fiscal year 2023-24. For both 2024-25 and 2025-26, the Ministry allocated and released ₹200.00 lakh (approximately ₹2 crore) each year.
