Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh launched the IAS e-Civil List 2026 at Kartavya Bhawan, New Delhi, emphasizing the growing role of technology in governance. The digital platform serves as a vital governance tool for identifying expertise, improving cadre management, and supporting evidence-based decision making through easy access to officers' qualifications, experience, cadre, and posting information.

The e-Civil List represents the 71st edition of the publication and the sixth edition released as an e-book in PDF format. It contains comprehensive details of IAS officers including their batch, cadre, present posting, pay level, educational qualifications, and date of superannuation. The publication also provides information on cadre-wise strength, the number of officers retiring during the next five years, and historical appointment data through Civil Services Examinations from 1969 onwards.

As of January 1, 2026, against an authorized cadre strength of 7,026 positions, a total of 5,755 IAS officers were in position across 25 cadres. The Department of Personnel and Training, which serves as the cadre controlling authority for the Indian Administrative Service, prepares the Civil List using inputs from State Cadres and central information.

The digital format features advanced search facilities and hyperlinking capabilities that enable users to identify officers based on professional background, domain expertise, and experience. This transition from printed publications to digital platforms aligns with the Digital India vision and reduces expenditure on physical publication while ensuring more efficient utilization of public resources.
