The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment published a success story demonstrating the impact of the Top Class Education Scheme for OBC, EBC and DNT Students. The case study focuses on Mritunjay Singh, an Other Backward Class student who faced financial constraints with a family annual income of approximately ₹2 lakh, making it difficult to pursue management education.
Singh received substantial financial support through the scheme, with ₹7.85 lakh awarded in March 2025 for his first year of MBA at Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh, followed by ₹7.66 lakh in January 2026 for his second year, totaling ₹15.51 lakh in scholarship assistance. This support significantly reduced the financial burden on his family and enabled him to focus on academics and career preparation.
Following the completion of his MBA, Singh secured employment as a Senior Manager at VXpress, a division of VTrans India Pvt. Ltd. His annual income increased by approximately ₹12 lakh, marking a substantial improvement in his family's economic condition. In his statement, Singh emphasized how the scholarship eased financial burdens, allowed him to pursue his MBA without stress, and motivated him toward his professional goals.
The case study highlights the scheme's role in enabling deserving students from disadvantaged backgrounds to access quality education at premier institutions, develop professional capabilities, and secure meaningful employment, thereby promoting social mobility and building an inclusive India.
