Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has appealed to members of the Vriksh Mitra Parivar to undertake a nationwide plantation drive on August 12, coinciding with the festival of Hariyali Amavasya. The initiative involves a collective pledge to plant over 50,000 saplings across villages and cities throughout the country. Minister Chouhan will personally participate in the plantation drive at PBG Ground, Central Range near Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi alongside hundreds of colleagues, while thousands of Vriksh Mitra Abhiyan members will conduct simultaneous plantation activities in their respective locations.
The Minister emphasized that Hariyali Amavasya represents a festival to express gratitude toward nature, combining scientific perspective with the message of environmental conservation. He urged citizens to plant at least one sapling and encouraged a chain participation model where each participant involves five additional people, aiming to transform the initiative into a people's movement. Participants are requested to upload information and photographs of their plantation activities on the website shivrajsinghchouhan.co.in to document widespread public participation. The campaign focuses on spreading environmental responsibility messages while adding greenery to communities across India.
