Regulatory Clarification on Market Rumour

Petronet LNG Limited has submitted a clarification to the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange of India in response to a query received on 23rd July 2026. The query was initiated under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, seeking verification of a market rumour.

Nature of the Query

The exchanges sought clarification on a media article dated 23rd July 2026 from moneycontrol.com, captioned "Petronet LNG down nearly 4% after report of QatarEnergy extending force majeure." The specific points raised by the exchanges were:

  • Whether negotiations regarding a force majeure extension were taking place, and if so, to provide a chronological sequence of events.
  • Whether the company was aware of any undisclosed information that could explain the trading movement.
  • Details of any regulatory or legal proceedings.
  • The material impact of the article on the company.
  • Reasons for not disclosing the aforementioned information to the exchange as required.

Company’s Clarification

Petronet LNG Limited stated that, as of the date of the communication (24th July 2026), it is not aware that QatarEnergy is preparing to extend its force majeure through mid-October 2026.

The company referenced its prior communication to the stock exchanges dated 5th March 2026, in which it had informed them about the issuance of a Force Majeure notice by its LNG supplier, QatarEnergy. Consequently, Petronet LNG had declared a Force Majeure to its offtakers: GAIL (India) Limited (GAIL), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) under the relevant Gas Sale and Purchase Agreements.

The company reiterated that the material impact of this ongoing Force Majeure event cannot be estimated at this point in time. The event persists due to continuing hostilities in the region and the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz.

Mitigation Efforts and Regulatory Compliance

Petronet LNG stated that since the commencement of the Force Majeure event, it has been taking adequate steps to mitigate its impact, such as providing additional slots and regasification capacity.

The clarification was issued with the approval of the competent authority and is for the information and records of the exchanges.
