Regulatory and Policy Measures
The Reserve Bank of India, exercising powers under sub‑section (1) of Section 35A read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, has extended the operational directive issued to Samarth Sahakari Bank Ltd., Solapur. The original directive (Directive No. NGP.DOS.SSM 2.No.S580/15-03-614/2025-2026) dated October 06, 2025, prescribed a six‑month period ending on April 07, 2026. This was subsequently extended up to October 07, 2026 by Directive No. DOR.MON/D-20/12.22.368/2026-27 dated June 30, 2026. The current extension adds a further three months, moving the expiry to January 07, 2027, and is subject to review.
The RBI states that the extension is made in the public interest and expressly clarifies that it should not be construed as an indication that the RBI is satisfied with the bank’s financial position. All other terms and conditions of the original directive remain unchanged.
In conclusion, the RBI continues to monitor Samarth Sahakari Bank Ltd., providing a time‑bound extension of regulatory oversight while emphasizing that the bank’s financial health remains a concern. The extension reflects a balance between public interest considerations and the need for continued supervisory review.
