Regulatory and Policy Measures
The Reserve Bank of India, exercising powers under subsection (1) of Section 35A read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, has extended the earlier directive issued to The Suri Friends' Union Co-operative Bank Ltd. The original directive (No. CO.DOS.SED.No.S2574/12-07-005/2022-23 dated July 21, 2022) was for a six‑month period ending on January 22, 2023 and was subsequently extended up to October 22, 2026 by Directive No. DOR.MON.D-25/12.29.046/2026-27 dated July 14, 2026. The current extension adds a further three months, moving the expiry to close of business on January 22, 2027, subject to review. The RBI expressly states that this extension should not be interpreted as an indication of satisfaction with the bank’s financial position. All other terms and conditions of the original directive remain unchanged.
The extension reflects the RBI’s assessment that continued regulatory oversight is in the public interest, ensuring the bank operates under the stipulated conditions while its financial health is monitored.
