Date: 18 June 2026

Banking and Credit

The RBI conducted a statutory inspection of the bank’s financial position as of 31 March 2025. The inspection identified that the bank failed to adhere to the prescribed regulatory ceiling on certain advances, thereby breaching the RBI’s directions on Exposure Norms & Statutory/Other Restrictions applicable to Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs).

Regulatory and Policy Measures

Pursuant to Section 47A(1)(c) read with Sections 46(4)(i) and 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, the RBI issued a notice to the bank asking it to show cause why a penalty should not be imposed. After considering the bank’s written reply, additional submissions and oral arguments at a personal hearing, the RBI affirmed the breach and imposed a monetary penalty of ₹20,000 (Rupees Twenty Thousand only) by an order dated 15 June 2026. The penalty is imposed without prejudice to any further action the RBI may initiate against the bank.

The RBI emphasizes that the penalty addresses regulatory compliance deficiencies and does not comment on the validity of any customer transactions.
