The Ministry of Culture, through the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) in New Delhi, is conducting the 8th edition of the PM Mementos e-Auction 2026, featuring a total of 1,498 mementos presented to the Prime Minister on various occasions. The auction prominently features Assam's cultural traditions with a dedicated collection showcasing the state's renowned handloom traditions, bamboo and cane craftsmanship, metalwork, and traditional art forms.
The Assam collection includes several significant cultural items: a Sati Sadhani framed Muga silk artwork rendered in traditional Ahom Kham style using golden-finished foils and organic colors; a handcrafted bamboo and cane wall clock reflecting sustainable craftsmanship; an eco-craft gift box featuring water hyacinth transformed into sustainable products including slippers, baskets, and a natural-fiber hat; traditional Assamese Japi with vibrant red and blue patterns; several traditional Gamusas with intricate red and gold motifs; handcrafted brass Xorais symbolizing hospitality; and a finely crafted wooden miniature replica of the historic Kamakhya Temple.
The collection also includes mementos associated with important historical figures including Bir Chilarai, Bharat Ratna awardee Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi, Swargadeo Chaolung Sukapha, and Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva, as well as representations of significant historical events like the 1894 Patharughat Battle and cultural institutions including Bordua Satra and Swahid Smarak Khetra & Park.
An accompanying exhibition at the National Gallery of Modern Art enables visitors to view the mementos and appreciate their artistic and cultural significance. The auction is being conducted through the official portal https://pmmementos.gov.in, and all funds raised through the auction will be donated to the Namami Gange Programme, which is the national mission for the conservation and rejuvenation of the River Ganga.
