The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in collaboration with the National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW), Capacity Building Commission (CBC), and Karmayogi Bharat (KB), commenced a two-day National Conference on Mission Karmayogi for Mission Karmayogi Development Officers (MDOs) of the Department of Health and Family Welfare on August 20-21, 2026, at NIHFW, New Delhi. The conference aims to strengthen institutional capacity-building mechanisms and enhance the effectiveness of capacity-building initiatives across the health sector.

Mission Karmayogi represents a significant shift from traditional rule-based approaches toward role-based, competency-driven civil service development. The program has recorded substantial progress with 21,927 course enrolments and 17,660 course completions across the Ministry. The iGOT Karmayogi platform has evolved into the world's largest capacity-building platform, providing a technology-driven ecosystem for continuous learning and professional development of government officials.

The conference highlighted several key achievements, including the training of approximately 11 lakh personnel from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and associated organizations during the COVID-19 pandemic, covering aspects such as Intensive Care Unit management and other critical areas. India has signed an MoU with Mauritius and is engaging with several Latin American and SAARC countries to share capacity-building experiences and explore collaborations.

Future priorities include enrolling all frontline health workers on the iGOT platform, leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to make learning more accessible and personalized, and developing multilingual courses to reach personnel across different regions and linguistic backgrounds. The conference featured technical sessions on iGOT Karmayogi, Capacity Building Units, Rashtriya Karmayogi Programme, and implementation strategies for Mission Karmayogi in the Department of Health and Family Welfare.

Group discussions focused on motivating employees for continuous capacity building, breaking institutional silos, developing health-based domain courses, improving departmental performance in government ranking frameworks, and measuring citizen impact beyond course completion metrics. The initiative aligns with Mission Karmayogi's objectives to develop a professional, citizen-centric, and future-ready civil service through competency-based capacity building and continuous learning.
