India is hosting the 16th BRICS Agriculture Ministers' Meeting in Indore, Madhya Pradesh on June 12-13, 2026, under its BRICS Chairship for the year. Ahead of the ministerial meeting, delegates from BRICS Member and Partner Countries including Brazil, South Africa, and Ethiopia visited Indore on June 8, 2026, where they experienced the city's hospitality, cultural heritage, and urban environment, including a visit to the 56 Dukan food hub to sample local delicacies.

Under India's 2026 BRICS Chairship, which runs from January 1 to December 31, 2026, four sessions of the Agriculture Working Group have already been completed, advancing discussions on food security, sustainable agriculture, innovation, climate resilience, and resilient food systems development. Deputy Representatives will convene from June 9-11 to deliberate on key agricultural challenges and opportunities prior to the ministerial meeting.

The ministerial discussions will focus on agricultural cooperation, value chains, market opportunities, innovation, knowledge exchange, climate-resilient agriculture, regenerative farming, soil health, and sustainable resource management. Special emphasis will be placed on strengthening the role of smallholder farmers, women, and youth in advancing food security and achieving Sustainable Development Goals. Technical dialogues have also covered reducing food loss and waste, fisheries and aquaculture, and advanced livestock technologies, enabling experience sharing and best practice exchange among participating countries.

This marks India's fourth BRICS Chairship, having previously held the position in 2012, 2016, and 2021, demonstrating its continued commitment to fostering practical cooperation and shared progress among BRICS Member and Partner Countries in the agricultural sector.
