The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, inaugurated the 'Seva Sankalp, Khadi Mahotsav 2026' on September 17, 2026, from the KVIC campus at Gandhi Darshan, Rajghat. The event marks Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birth anniversary and will be celebrated nationwide until October 17, 2026, with public participation.
During the inauguration, KVIC Chairman Shri Manoj Goyal and former Delhi Mayor Shri Jai Prakash presided over ceremonies including cake-cutting with #AshirwadKaDiya and lighting of 25 lamps symbolizing PM Modi's 25 years of public service. The event was attended by Khadi institution representatives, artisans, PMEGP beneficiaries, trainees, and KVIC officers and employees, both physically and online.
KVIC disbursed ₹289 crore in margin money subsidy to 3,366 beneficiaries under the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), which will establish new projects across India with bank loans totaling approximately ₹873 crore. This initiative is expected to create employment opportunities for approximately 37,026 people. Additionally, 5,000 new PMEGP units were launched online during the event.
The commission launched five digital initiatives: E-Commerce Portal, PMEGP Online EDP Portal, PMEGP Online EDP Mobile App, Hindi Vaibhav Portal, and KVIC Digital 2.0, aimed at making KVIC's digital services more accessible and effective. The program also featured the online inauguration of 760 individual and group workshops plus renovated stores nationwide, along with a Khadi and Village Industries Exhibition.
Throughout the Mahotsav period, activities will include cleanliness drives, tree plantations, Khadi Yatras, Swadeshi Sankalp pledge ceremonies, awareness programs, artisan dialogues, and training programs across schools, villages, towns, and Khadi institutions. The event is linked to the 'Swachhata Hi Seva 2026' campaign running from September 17 to October 17 with the theme 'Participation in Cleanliness, Clean India, Developed India'.
Chairman Goyal highlighted that the Khadi and Village Industries sector achieved a turnover exceeding ₹1.87 lakh crore in financial year 2025-26, generating total income of ₹1.87 lakh crore while employing more than 20.4 million people. He expressed confidence that the sector will achieve its target of ₹2.51 lakh crore turnover in the coming years, attributing this unprecedented progress to Prime Minister Modi's policies and vision.
