Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla released the inaugural book 'IIT - The Story of India's Most Prestigious Educational Ecosystem' published by Pan-IIT Book Club at IIT Delhi on June 20, 2026. The Speaker emphasized that IITs have successfully carried forward India's ancient knowledge traditions from Takshashila, Nalanda, and Vikramshila into modern science and technology, calling it a story of modern India's self-confidence, knowledge, and nation-building.

Shri Birla highlighted the significant expansion of the IIT system from the initial IIT Kharagpur to 23 institutions across India, noting that their alumni provide leadership globally. He specifically mentioned the transformation of Hijli Detention Camp into IIT Kharagpur as an inspiring tale of moving from struggle to creation and from subjugation to self-reliant India (Atmanirbhar Bharat). The Speaker praised IITians' successes across sectors and disciplines as mirroring India's growth story.

A key focus was India's transition from 'brain drain' to 'brain gain,' which Birla stated symbolizes the country's growing self-confidence and expanding opportunities for global leadership in artificial intelligence, robotics, space technology, and green energy. He noted that the Government of India is making continuous efforts to promote research, innovation, artificial intelligence, quantum technology, and advanced manufacturing.

The Speaker referenced the Bhakra Project as described in the book, where young engineers demonstrated national interest, dedication, and service, serving as an inspiration. He emphasized that young talent must understand their obligations toward the nation and society alongside personal success, stating that those who choose challenges over comfort create history.

Birla called for equal participation from educational institutions, scientists, industries, entrepreneurs, and youth for building a developed nation. He expressed confidence that the new generation of IITians will lead India on the global stage by linking science with service, innovation with national interest, and success with social responsibility.
