The Ministry of Education has taken significant steps to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which requires sustained expertise and coordinated efforts at national, state, institutional, and individual levels. The policy specifically recommends strengthening and empowering the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) with an expanded mandate to serve as a consultation platform and to develop, articulate, evaluate, and review the vision of education.

To facilitate comprehensive implementation of NEP 2020 across school and higher education, the Ministry has constituted an Education Advisory Council (EdAC) comprising eminent experts from diverse education fields. This council is tasked with advising the Ministry on critical aspects of NEP implementation, developing an overarching roadmap, reviewing interventions for course correction, and recommending measures for strengthening CABE.

The government emphasizes cooperative federalism and maintains continuous engagement with States and Union Territories on educational matters. Since NEP 2020's announcement, numerous consultations have been conducted through various institutional forums including the National Education Ministers' Conference (June 2022), National Conference of Chief Secretaries (2022, 2023, 2025), NITI Aayog Governing Council Meetings (2022, 2024, 2026), and multiple zone-wise consultation-cum-review meetings throughout 2022 and 2023. Additional engagements included national and regional workshops in November 2021, a National Conference on Curricular and Assessment Equivalence in July 2025, Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam events (2022-2025), Conference of Governors (2021, 2024), and a National Workshop on Higher and Technical Education in November 2024.

Most recently, a two-Day Conclave of State and UT Education Ministers was held on July 22-23, 2026, in New Delhi, where key policy leaders reviewed the implementation of major centrally sponsored schemes in school education and strengthened center-state collaboration for better educational outcomes. These engagements provide a regular platform for collaborative policy formulation, review, and implementation of educational reforms across India.
