The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, held its Combined Convocation 2026 on 31 August 2026 in New Delhi. The ceremony brought together 3793 graduating students from 18 NIFT campuses across the country, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD scholars. President Droupadi Murmu, as the Chief Guest and Visitor of NIFT, emphasized that the textile and apparel sector is both a cultural heritage and livelihood backbone for millions, urging students to maintain a global outlook while remaining connected to India's cultural roots and values. She noted NIFT's Craft Cluster Initiative programs that connect traditional artisans with modern techniques and markets.
Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh encouraged students to dream big and become driving forces for Viksit Bharat, while Textiles Secretary Neelam Shami Rao emphasized continuous learning and skill upgrading. The ceremony featured the presentation of 10 Gold Medals to the Best Academic Performers across NIFT's academic programs, selected based on outstanding CGPA and semester-wise SGPA performance. Following the central ceremony, campus-wise degree distribution ceremonies were held for graduates to formally receive their degrees. NIFT, founded in 1986 and governed by the NIFT Act 2006, operates across 20 campuses and has played a pioneering role in India's fashion education landscape by combining contemporary learning with appreciation of India's craft and design traditions.
