President of India Droupadi Murmu graced the 75th annual convocation ceremony of Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in Vadodara, Gujarat on September 23, 2026. In her address, the President emphasized that the university has been advancing diverse streams of knowledge for 75 years and stressed that solutions to modern problems require a multidisciplinary approach. She stated that higher education institutions must remain alert and dynamic in integrating perspectives from science, arts, history, economics, and sociology.
The President asked graduating students to reflect on the purpose of their education, emphasizing that education becomes meaningful only when it benefits the country and society. She provided specific guidance for different professions: engineers should develop technologies that improve lives; doctors should view medicine as service rather than profession; scientists should find solutions in humanity's interest; artists and writers should enrich societal sensitivity; entrepreneurs should create employment and opportunities alongside wealth; teachers should nurture generations embracing both heritage and progress; and those in public life should regard positions as responsibilities rather than sources of authority.
President Murmu highlighted the national goal of building Viksit Bharat by 2047, envisioning a country with quality education and healthcare for all, science and technology utilized for human welfare, equality of opportunity, harnessed potential of women and youth, and dignity for every citizen. She stated that universities and youth have crucial roles in achieving these national development goals.
