President of India Smt Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the Jagadguru Kripalu University at Cuttack, Odisha on August 3, 2026. The event was documented by the President's Secretariat as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
In her address, the President highlighted Odisha's rich tradition of knowledge, culture, spirituality, and service, noting that Cuttack is the birthplace of notable figures including 'Utkal Gourav' Madhusudan Das, 'Karmavir' Gauri Shankar Ray, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, and Biju Patnaik. She emphasized that the university, established in this region, should serve as a medium for societal and national service by integrating India's ancient cultural and spiritual traditions with modern education.
The President stated that India's young population represents the country's greatest asset, and universities must create environments where young people can develop their talents and realize their dreams through value-based education. She emphasized that universities bear the responsibility of shaping citizens guided by integrity, discipline, sensitivity, and commitment to national interest, noting that knowledge becomes meaningful when used in service of humanity, society welfare, and national progress.
Regarding national goals, the President mentioned the objective to build Viksit Bharat by 2047, with higher education institutions playing a pivotal role. She urged universities to function as centers of knowledge where developed ideas and technologies address societal needs. While embracing modern knowledge, she emphasized that students should remain committed to ethical values. The President expressed confidence that Jagadguru Kripalu University would foster research, innovation, and entrepreneurship while emphasizing cultural and spiritual growth, producing skilled manpower, researchers, and entrepreneurs who would contribute to realizing the goals of both 'Viksit Odisha' and 'Viksit Bharat'.
