The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) concluded its Internship Programme 2026 with a valedictory function held at its Headquarters in Lok Nayak Bhawan, New Delhi on August 7, 2026. The month-long program engaged 20 young scholars providing practical exposure to the constitutional mandate of the Commission, tribal governance, public policy, and legal and institutional frameworks for protection and welfare of Scheduled Tribes.
Interns attended expert lectures and interactive sessions conducted by senior NCST officers and subject experts covering constitutional safeguards for Scheduled Tribes, the Forest Rights Act 2006, the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act 1996 (PESA), tribal development programmes, public administration, governance, and NCST functioning. Participants gained practical exposure through interactions with various Commission divisions, grievance redressal mechanisms, quasi-judicial proceedings, research activities, policy initiatives, and a field visit.
Each intern delivered individual presentations on tribal affairs, constitutional provisions, or governance issues, and undertook research assignments on Fifth and Sixth Schedule areas, Forest Rights Act, tribal welfare programmes, and tribal administration aspects. The program concluded with submission and presentation of group research reports. The valedictory session was presided over by Dr. Asha Lakra, Hon'ble Member of NCST, along with Secretary Sh. Prashant Kumar Singh, Joint Secretary Sh. Amit Nirmal, Director Shri Purnendu Kant, and Senior Investigator and Programme Coordinator Shri Manish Raj.
This initiative represents NCST's continuing efforts to engage young scholars with Scheduled Tribes issues and strengthen awareness of constitutional, legal, and policy frameworks for tribal protection, welfare, and inclusive development. The program aims to promote informed academic engagement, enhance public awareness, and foster greater sensitivity toward tribal issues among youth.
